World of Nevus - Religious Lore & Other Mythology
Religion
The central religion in the World of Nevus is "Pankosmiism." The reverence of a massive oak tree in the center point on the planet's surface. This point is inside of the Kingdom of Regnum Nivibus.
Followers of Pankosmiism, called Pankosminites, are predominantly female. Females of Pankosmiism are strongest in Faith Healing, "Pankosmia's Love & Mercy." The strongest healers being born in months blessed by Trem or Sayame. They practice the preservation of modesty, femininity, and chivalry. They believe in spontaneous creation and evolution from the original creation. Male practitioners are present, but follow "Pankosmia's Wrath & Might" for the sake of protecting their homes. They practice humility, honor and chivalry. This is restricted solely to the military where faith healing is also taught. However, males are not as strong at healing, but are capable of applying faith healing to conventional medicine.
The Great Mother Tree, Pankosmia, emits mana from its leaves, scattering it across the world to fuel the lives of living things and gives shape to all other matter, splitting up in a spectrum of colors to give vibrancy.
It is said that inside of the tree is a throne of such a design that is unfathomable to people. Behind the throne is a bridge to the spirit realm where the 10 Goddesses, and the God-Queen herself, reside and govern the laws of the material world.
Sayame, the Divine of Water, is the Goddess of Oceans, Rain and Fertility. It has been said that she will appear along rivers and lakes, playing a lyre for humans who pass close. If a couple were to encounter Sayame, she would say to them, "A pleasure to meet you three." It is a confirmation that the woman is pregnant or will become pregnant. Sayame is the most informative of the Goddesses.
Figra, the Divine of Fire, is the Goddess of Summer, War, Wrath and Passion. Random spontaneous major crimes have been blamed on Figra. It has been said that her image may appear in fires going out of control and volcanoes. Soldiers going to war often pray to Figra to give them a berserker rage when encountering the enemy. Figra is the most aggressive of the Goddesses and is most worshiped in Firland.
Gale, the Divine of Wind, is the Goddess of Play, Spring and Storms. She has been known to appear during breezy days. People would hang up wind chimes and tunnel flags for Gale to play with. Whichever house Gale enjoyed playing around the most would receive a warning if a dangerous wind storm was on the way. It has also been said that green-haired children are Gale incarnate. But there are no proof.
Trem, the Divine of Earth, is the Goddess of Autumn, Land and Festivals. Earthquakes are attributed to Trem. She has been known to visit farms and gardens. Farmers who show dedication to the land may be visited by Trem, and have their farms and gardens blessed by her. The farmer would see a plentiful harvest.
Thundora, the Divine of Lightning, is the Goddess of Invention and Sexuality. Has a unusually high following amongst Nivian females. It is said that Nivian women entering their mating season experience it like lightning going through them. Inventors and artists claim their their inspiration comes from Thundora blessing them. Thundora is also said to be seen riding lightning across the sky during severe storms. Thought to regularly bully Gale.
Crystyl, the Divine of Ice, is the Goddess of Winter, Competition and Blizzards. It has been said that people lost in blizzards might encounter Crystyl, who will either guide them to safety or lead them to their death.
Dusk, the Divine of Darkness, is the Goddess of Night, Fear and Death. On rare occasions, it is said that family paintings might contain a image of Dusk behind a family member who will soon die.
Celestia, the Divine of Light, is the unified Goddess of Sun, Moon, Stars, and purity. She is made up of three minor deities: Sol, Luna and Polaris. The world of Nevus is color coded, their citizens (almost entirely willfully) wear only their nations colors. But regardless of nation, every female often wear something white to signify purity and modesty.
Pankosmia, the God-Queen, is the central supreme Goddess, ruler of all things. She is honored by families naming their daughters after her or simply nicknaming their daughters "Pan." Every few years, there is a pilgrimage starting in Nivia, home of the ancient Mother Tree of the same name, going to the Holy City of Harmonja in the Crezanti Theocracy and returning to Pankosmia in Nivia. There is a sect of Pankosminites who believe Princess Anastasia is Pankosmia reincarnated.
Moria, the Prime. The Beginning. The Great Grandfather. The first of the Divines, he who birthed the land, waves, winds and flames. It is said that the current Divines are his great granddaughters. His name has long since faded into obscurity.
Creation Myth
"In the Dawn of Creation, The Young Prime planted a tree to bring life to the desolation.
The Prime first planted this tree in Magma to give it warmth. The Fire, however, endangered the tree. The Young Prime wept at his foolishness, creating Oceans which doused the flames, and watered the tree.
The cooled magma created Land, where the tree took root. The roots spread, giving shape to the world. The Young Prime then moved the world away from Praetextatus to preserve the Water.
With his garden taking form, the Young Prime sighed in content, creating the Wind.
The Prime, still young and foolish, neglected his beautiful garden. He moved the world closer to Praetextatus. Rain began to fall, and Lightning illuminated the skies.
The small sapling, now a mighty tree, required special care. Too much light, the tree will burn. Too much night, the tree with freeze. The Prime began to spin the world, creating hours of light, and hours of night.
The Prime, now unfathomably old, can no longer tend to his beautiful garden world. He birthed ten daughters to tend and protect the world. The Old God then left, leaving the world in the care of his daughters.
The Daughters created life to enjoy the garden of their Father. Among the most beloved was Man that worshipped the Mighty Tree, whom they named Pankosmia - The Mother Tree.
